Food Vale Seeks Local Community Partners to Help Shape a Better Food Future
Every few months, Food Vale hosts an event to bring people together around the common cause of healthy and sustainable food. To strengthen this, and to support on-the-ground work across the Vale, we are now looking for local groups, organisations and initiatives to collaborate with.
Events so far have included mind-mapping and visioning exercises for what our local food system should look like, spotlights on issues such as community growing and opportunities to collectively develop bids for funding. The events are open to anyone and everyone, and aim to provide a vital space for people, projects and partners to connect with one another, share ideas and influence the future of our food system.
Each event takes place in a different location, and so far we have enjoyed events in Llantwit Major, Barry, Penarth and Rhoose.
In recognition that there is a lot of work happening across the Vale that aligns with Food Vale’s goals, we are now calling for local groups who may wish to co-host an event with Food Vale to bring together their community to discuss their local food system.
Events may focus on a specific issue, such as Fair-Trade food, community kitchens and local retail; may share progress on a certain project; or may just be a chance to more broadly discuss what you would like to see in your local food system.
Because we know that not everyone’s voice is always heard, we’re particularly interested in collaborating with groups who have strong ties to their communities – especially those who work with people often left out of mainstream conversations. We want to work with you to co-host events that reflect your community’s priorities and values.
We’re looking for:
- Community groups and grassroots organisations based in the Vale of Glamorgan
- Those with experience in community engagement or a strong local presence
- A shared interest in food-related topics (e.g. food justice, growing, cooking, access, sustainability, culture, health)
We have a small budget to support collaboration, including venue hire, catering, accessibility needs and contributions for guest speakers.
If you think you might be interested in collaborating with us, or want to find out more,
please get in touch. We’d love to talk about how we can work together to create inclusive, meaningful events that centre community voices.
