Apple Crumble

Ingredients:

150g plain flour (wholemeal or white)
75g margarine
75g caster sugar
75g porridge oats
1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
6-8 eating apples (any colour)

Method:

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 180oC / Gas mark 4
  2. In a mixing bowl, add the flour and margarine and rub between your fingertips until it looks like breadcrumbs.
  3. Add the caster sugar, oats and cinnamon (if using) and mix well
  4. Wash and quarter the apples. Remove the core and pips then slice or chop into small chunks
  5. Place the apple in an oven proof dish and pour the crumble mixture over the top
  6. Bake in the oven for 30-40 minute, until the top is golden
  7. Serve with low fat Greek yogurt

* Any leftover apple crumble can be kept in the fridge to eat for up to 2 days later

* To make this recipe vegan friendly replace the margarine with a vegan spread

* You can use other fruit instead of apple – like plums, rhubarb or frozen mixed berries

* Fresh, frozen or tinned fruit (in own juices) can be used for this recipe

* Mix 2 tablespoons of dried fruit (such as raisins) to the crumble mixture to add to more sweetness
